Please read the information below so you are aware of what to expect while at Canossa Private Hospital's operating theatres.
- A nurse will conduct your nursing assessment and admission.
- You will be required to change into operating theatre attire.
- Once the surgeon and theatre team are nearly ready for you in the operating theatre you will be transferred to an anaesthetic bay and helped onto a theatre trolley. The anaesthetic nurse will conduct an additional nursing assessment.
- The surgeon and anaesthetist will see you prior to your procedure when they are conducting their final assessment. Please use this time to ask any final questions you may have.
- You will be wheeled into the operating theatre when it is time for your surgery.
- Once your surgery has been completed you will be transferred via theatre trolley to stage one recovery. The nursing staff will monitor your vital signs and post-operative recovery.
- When suitable you will be escorted to a stage two recliner where you will be offered refreshments and a light snack. You will remain here until the time of your discharge.
- The discharge nurse will discuss the surgeon's post-operative instructions, post anaesthetic restrictions and any post-operative medication. If applicable, you will be provided with the surgeon's post-operative appointment details.
- It is a legal requirement that all patients who receive an anaesthetic must be discharged into the care of a responsible adult for a minimum of 24 hours after your procedure. Please note, you may require a responsible adult to provide care for a longer period due to post-operative surgical requirements.
